Genome Research - Changes over Time

Changes over Time

When genomics was born in the 1970s and 1980s, few scientists ever dreamed that within two decades we would know our entire gene compliment.

The technology that made the task possible was invented within this period, and the leaders in the field have largely shifted from experimental biologists to computer scientists.

The completion of a major project also provides an opportunity for a major change in the way of thinking about the genome, from a goal oriented propulsion to complete the project to an application-based approach that aims to address how we are going to use this information.
