James D. Watson - Mentoring

Mentoring

Watson was a unique mentor to his graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. He provided intellectual guidance and scientific vision and set his students free to develop their own experiments. He defined scientific convention by never putting his name on the papers his students produced, allowing them full credit for their work and greater exposure in the scientific community.
