Scott Lowe
Dr. Lowe is a member and chair of the Cancer Biology and Genetics Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the chair of Geoffrey Beene Cancer Research Center, and a professor at Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences. He is recognized for his research on the tumor suppressor gene, p53, which is mutated in nearly half of cancers. Dr. Lowe enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and got his degree in biology before going on to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned his PhD. He remained at Massachusetts Institute of Technology to conduct his postdoctoral research. He has served as an HHMI Investigator since 2005 and in 2017, he was elected to the United States National Academy of Sciences. In 2019, Dr. Lowe was elected to the National Academy of Medicine. Some of his awards and honors include AACR Outstanding Investigator Award, Paul Marks Prize for Cancer Research and Kunio Yagi Medal from the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
