The hire of Tony Zador (left) and Zach Mainen (center) for assistant professorships in the expansion of CSHL's neuroscience program was reported in the 1999 Annual Report. Karel Svoboda (right) had worked on neurons and synapses in the intact brain at CSHLs since spring 1997 and left in 2010. Mainen studied the neural basis of perception and behavior in mice and left in 2010. Professor Zador is still a researcher at the Laboratory and has focused on the rodent auditory system as a model for studying the basic principles of cortical function.
