A large Assembly Room was located on the south side of the building on the first floor across from the Dining Room. It provided a formal meeting space on the Bio Lab grounds and featured an impressive fireplace adding to the comfort of Blackford Hall. The portrait visible in the above photograph is of Eugene G. Blackford, the building’s namesake. It still hangs on the wall in the same room, now called the Racker Reading Room.
