The Hershey-Chase Experiment, 1952

In 1952, Dr. Hershey and his assistant, Martha Chase, performed one of the most famous experiments in modern biology, the "Waring Blendor" experiment, which confirmed the concept that DNA is the material basis for heredity. One year later, in 1953, the discovery of the structure of DNA first described publicly by James Watson at the 1953 Cold Spring Harbor Symposium entitled "Viruses" heralded a new era in biology.
