In 1977, Williams was reconstructed to provide year-round housing for CSHL faculty. Because of the building’s location near natural springs on the hillside, the foundation was rotten and decayed. The decision was made to raze and rebuild the image of the original structure. Any salvageable interior fittings were donated to Old Bethpage Village Restoration. Old Bethpage Village is a reconstructed 19th-century rural farm village as would be typical for this part of Long Island. The $250,000 construction was paid for funds raised by the Long Island Biological Association and designed and supervised by the architecture firm Moore Grover Harper.
