Carol was appointed a CSHL Fellow from 1988-1990, when she conducted her groundbreaking research on telomeres and the telomerase enzyme. She continued her research at CSHL as a member of the faculty from 1990-1997. Carol received the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 2009, along with Elizabeth Blackburn and Jack Szostak, “for their discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the telomerase enzyme.” Carol continues to support CSHL as part of the Scientific Advisory Council.
