Alfred Hershey’s Waring Blendor, 1952

The Waring Blendor pictured above was used by Alfred Hershey, assisted by Martha Chase, in his lab in Animal House in 1952 for his famous experiment, which proved that DNA, not protein, contained the hereditary material in phage. Hershey was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine with his colleagues Max Delbrück and Salvador Luria in 1969 for his work.
