In November of 1999, the two remaining historic guest cabins were removed to make room for the Samuel Freeman Building. The exterior of the new building was designed to be reminiscent of the old cabins.

The new building housed facilities for computational neuroscience, an expanded component of CSHL's existing neuroscience program.
