Prior to the construction of the Delbrück Laboratory, a teaching facility called Davenport Laboratory, in honor of CSHL director Charles Davenport, was built in 1926 to accommodate the summer courses “Comparative Anatomy” and “Systematic and Field Botany.” This was the location of the phage courses started in 1945 by Max Delbrück.
