Max’s scientific vision, methods, and ability to inspire other scientists laid the foundation for the systems and techniques of modern molecular genetics. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1969, along with his colleagues Salvador Luria and Alfred Hershey (both pictured above), for his studies on phages, mutation and recombination and for his pervasive influence on the entire field. This photo was taken at the Nobel Award Ceremony.
