The following information was reported in the CSHL 2014 Annual Report, "Construction on the 8000-square-foot addition to the Woodbury Genome Center that will open in 2015 as the Preclinical Experimental Therapeutics Facility (PETx) began in late 2013. When completed, the facility will house state-of-the-art imaging equipment and a dedicated staff to allow for the discovery and development of novel therapeutics and diagnostics strategies. Equipment will include noninvasive imaging such as PET/CT, ultrasound, and optical imaging equipment. The facility will have two surgical suites, necroscopy rooms, a pharmacy, and a diagnostic clinical laboratory." The PETX facility allows for drug testing in animal models for cancer that recapitulates cancer in patients. The other core function of the PETx facility is advanced imaging.
