Within a few years, the facilities of the Fish Hatchery became insufficient to accommodate the students and lecturers of the summer Bio Lab. With the $5000 donation of landowner John Jones and his family, a structure was erected to expand the Lab's facilities, aptly named the Jones Laboratory. The Jones Laboratory is the oldest biological laboratory in continuous use in the United States and a historical landmark.
