Many of the shingles covering Hooper House date from the building’s original construction ca. 1835. Over the years, these shingles accumulated much paint and residue and became extremely porous. In the 1970s, the shingles were “sandblasted” using crushed pecans instead of sand. In 1995, as shown in this photo, the shingles on the east (sea) side of the house were replaced.
