Under Davenport's influence, the Wawepex Society decided to renew the Bio Lab's lease in 1903, but only under certain conditions; the Biological Laboratory's Board of Managers was responsible for receiving an annual endowment of $15,000, and the Bio Lab was urged to obtain the support of the Carnegie Institute of Washington. Davenport fundraised furiously and advocated for a year-round science facility to be established next door to the Biological Laboratory. Within a year, the Carnegie Institute heeded Davenport's call and set up a Station for Experimental Evolution at Cold Spring Harbor.
