Beckman Neuroscience Center Building Architecture, 1992

Beckman Neuroscience Center includes W.M. Keck Laboratory of Structural Biology, state-of-the-art research labs, two Howard Hughes Teaching labs, a library, two audio-visually equipped seminar rooms, scientist offices, a facility for X-ray crystallography, and space for support services.

The rectangular, dark colored brick lab is partially blocked (in views from across the harbor) by a smaller light colored brick office/seminar wing. French doors to a lovely courtyard and large windows facing the harbor fit with the historic and residential aspects of the community.

At the opening the Neuroscience labs were dedicated to the study of learning and memory, with a focus on signal transduction processes within the cells of the nervous system.

Leemor Joshua-Tor, Chair of Cancer and Molecular Biology, leads researchers in her Beckman Neuroscience lab in the study of the molecular basis of nucleic acid regulatory processes, using the tools of structural biology and biochemistry.
