In 2011, the Olney Barn was in serious need of renovation, but a survey of the structure and the site showed that it was impractical to renovate the existing building. To provide a suitable workspace for the Laboratory’s groundskeepers, a new barn was constructed at a more suitable location. By 2017, the condition of the circa 1880 Olney barn had deteriorated to render the structure unsalvageable. A cosmetically similar replacement design was built to accommodate the need to store and maintain grounds equipment.
