1997 was the last year that the Facilities Department occupied the Power House. The administrative staff at CSHL had grown along with the increasing meetings, courses, and research programs. A major conversion was planned for the Power House and adjacent Carpentry Shed to provide much-needed additional office space. The Buildings & Grounds, Environmental Health & Safety, and Security staff were relocated to make way for the major renovation. The resulting office complex, completed in 1999 and called the David and Fanny Luke Building, would be the new home for the Public Affairs, Development, and Human Resources Departments. The new design included skylights along the roof peak, reflecting the earlier style of the building.
