Journal of Neuroscience publishes papers on a broad range of topics of general interest to those working on the nervous system. With an impact factor of 6 (2016)Journal of Neuroscience is an official journal of the Society for Neuroscience. It is published weekly by the Society, fifty weeks a year, one volume a year.

Journal of Neuroscience Methods publishes papers that describe new methods that are specifically for neuroscience research conducted in invertebrates, vertebrates or in man. Major methodological improvements or important refinements of established neuroscience methods are also considered for publication. With an impact factor of 2.6 (2016)Journal of Neuroscience Methods includes all aspects of contemporary neuroscience research, including anatomical, behavioural, biochemical, cellular, computational, molecular, invasive and non-invasive imaging, optogenetic, and physiological research investigations.

Nature Neuroscience is a multidisciplinary journal that publishes papers of the highest quality and significance in all areas of neuroscience. With an impact factor of 17.8 (2016)Nature Neuroscience publishes contributions in molecular, cellular, systems and cognitive neuroscience, as well as psychophysics, computational modeling and diseases of the nervous system. No area is excluded from consideration, although priority is given to studies that provide fundamental insights into the functioning of the nervous system.

Molecular Psychiatry publishes work aimed at elucidating biological mechanisms underlying psychiatric disorders and their treatment. The emphasis is on studies at the interface of pre-clinical and clinical research, including studies at the cellular, molecular, integrative, clinical, imaging and psychopharmacology levels. With an impact factor of 13.2 (2016)Molecular Psychiatry focuses on research papersthat will be of interest to a broad readership.

Neuron has established itself as one of the most influential and relied upon journals in the field of neuroscience. The editors embrace interdisciplinary strategies that integrate biophysical, cellular, developmental, and molecular approaches with a systems approach to sensory, motor, and higher-order cognitive functions. With an impact factor of 14 (2016)Neuron serves as one of the premier intellectual forums of the entire neuroscience community.

Cerebral Cortex publishes papers on the development, organization, plasticity, and function of the cerebral cortex, including the hippocampus. Studies with clear relevance to the cerebral cortex, such as the thalamocortical relationship or cortico-subcortical interactions, are also included. With an impact factor of 6.6 (2016)Cerebral Cortex is multidisciplinary and covers the large variety of modern neurobiological and neuropsychological techniques, including anatomy, biochemistry, molecular neurobiology, electrophysiology, behavior, artificial intelligence, and theoretical modeling.

Current Opinion in Neurobiology publishes high-quality review papers of broad general interest and biological significance in the area of neuroscience, and related fields. With an impact factor of 6.1 (2016), Current Opinion in Neurobiology publishes over 90 reviews a year from leading international contributors.

Frontiers in Neural Circuits publishes rigorously peer-reviewed research on the emergent properties of neural circuits - the elementary modules of the brain. With an impact factor of 3 (2016)Frontiers in Neural Circuits seeks the computational strategies used by different circuits to link their structure with function (perceptual, motor, or internal), the general rules by which they operate, and how their particular designs lead to the emergence of complex properties and behaviors. Submissions focused on synaptic, cellular and connectivity principles in neural microcircuits using multidisciplinary approaches, especially newer molecular, developmental and genetic tools, are encouraged.

Journal of Neurophysiology publishes original articles on the function of the nervous system. All levels of function are included, from the membrane and cell to systems and behavior.  With an impact factor of 2.4 (2016)Journal of Neurophysiology features experimental approaches include molecular neurobiology, cell culture and slice preparations, membrane physiology, developmental neurobiology, functional neuroanatomy, neurochemistry, neuropharmacology, systems electrophysiology, imaging and mapping techniques, and behavioral analysis.

Frontiers in Systems Neuroscience is an open-access journal devoted to understanding whole systems of the brain, such as those involved in sensation, movement, learning and memory, attention, reward, decision-making, reasoning, executive functions, and emotions. The orientation is toward papers addressing the structural and functional architecture of brain systems, as well as the principles of information processing, storage and retrieval at the systems level. The journal will represent the full range of systems neuroscience research: from the analysis of pathways of information flow to neuronal circuits that transform simple inputs to complex outputs; short- and long-term changes in circuits that arise during activity-dependent development and plasticity; the dynamics of neuronal networks; and cognitive modules that are engaged in specific tasks.
