Raymond Gesteland earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University. He arrived at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in 1967 and worked as Assistant Director for Research with Jim Watson. Gestland is currently the Vice President for Research, Distinguished Professor of Human Genetics, and Chairman on the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Utah.
