Database Use if you need: Description
Agricola
via USDA
http://agricola.nal.usda.gov/
- plant science or veterinary information. National Agricultural Library database of materials on all aspects of agriculture and allied disciplines. Books(1970 -) and articles(1979 -) searchable in separate databases
BioKnowledge Library from Proteome
information about CSHL access
http://www.incyte.com/sequence/proteome/index.shtml
- protein information. "...the Proteome BioKnowledge Library is a powerful collection of databases focused on the compilation of available protein information. Using our proprietary processes, we comb through relevant biological literature for curation into our products. The data are then presented in an easy to use format that offers enhanced flexibility and powerful time savings over traditional library research. Access to thousands of independent research results offers the competitive advantage of reduced library research time and faster progression through discovery pathways."
CANCERLIT
access via OVID http://gateway.ovid.com/autologin.html

- specific cancer information, with access to many sources Covers all aspects of cancer therapy with records from journals, proceedings of meetings, government reports, symposia reports, theses, and selected monographs.
ENTREZ cross-database search
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gquery/gquery.fcgi
-searches 20 databases from NCBI and NLM simultaneously.

- new from NLM in November 2003.

Provides integrated access to nucleotide and protein sequence data from >130,000 organisms, along with 3D protein structures, genomic mapping information, PubMed MEDLINE, and more. Sequence data is combined from various sources, including GenBank, EMBL, DDBJ, RefSeq, PIR-International, PRF, Swiss-Prot, and PDB. Two unique features of Entrez are:  (1) pre-computed similarity searches for each database record, identifying the related records ("neighbors") within that database. The algorithm used to identify related records depends upon the database.  (2) links from a record in one database to associated records in the other Entrez databases, providing integrated access across the various databases.
Faculty of 1000
http://www.facultyof1000.com/browse/
- recommendations on the most useful articles in a specific field of biology. From BioMedCentral, this service comprehensively and systematically highlight and review the most interesting papers published in the biological sciences, based on the recommendations of a faculty of well over 1000 selected leading researchers.
FirstSearch
from OCLC
-a collection of general and science databases with the ability to search 3 databases at a time.
-access to magazines like TIME or NEWSWEEK
FirstSearch databases cover all topics.  WilsonSelectPlus provides full-text access to popular titles.
Grantsnet [must register before first use]
American Association for the Advancement of
Science
- a source for funding information. Funding opportunities for training in the Biological and Medical Sciences. Geared to scientists-in-training, GrantsNet provides tips
from grant reviewers, analysis of funding and research trends, profiles of successful grant seekers, an alphabetized directory of funding
sources, and monthly news highlighting brand new awards.
Journal Citation Reports 2000-2001
http://isiknowledge.com
-to compare and rate journals. JCR Web provides a means to critically evaluate the world's leading research journals.  Find the largest, most used, most cited, and highest impact journals.
Previous years are on CD in the main Library.
JSTOR
listing of journals http://www.jstor.org/browse
search http://www.jstor.org/search
-full-text of past years of selected journals. JSTOR provides online access to major journals such as Science and PNAS from volume 1.  The articles are also searchable.  This is one of the only resources for older journals online.
MEDLINE
access via OVID http://gateway.ovid.com/autologin.html
access via PubMed (for special links - see below)
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/
- excellent coverage of genetics and life sciences

MEDLINE is NLM's premier bibliographic database covering the fields of medicine, allied health, veterinary medicine and the preclinical sciences, from 1953 to the present.  Articls from more than 3,800 international biomedical journals.  English abstracts are included when available.

NLM Gateway
http://gateway.nlm.nih.gov/gw/Cmd
- simultaneous search of MEDLINE and other  databases not available elsewhere, eg. OLDMEDLINE or Spaceline The NLM Gateway allows users to search in multiple retrieval systems at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). The current Gateway searches MEDLINE/PubMed, OLDMEDLINE (1958-65), LOCATORplus, MEDLINEplus, DIRLINE, AIDS Meetings, Health Services Research Meetings, Space Life Sciences Meetings, and HSRProj.
OVID  http://gateway.ovid.com/autologin.html

PrimateLit
http://primatelit.library.wisc.edu/
-genetics and molecular biology specific to primates back to 1940 The PrimateLit database provides bibliographic access to the scientific literature on nonhuman primates for the research and educational communities. Coverage of the database spans 1940 to present and includes all publication categories (articles, books, abstracts, technical reports, dissertations, book chapters, etc.) and many subject areas (behavior, colony management, ecology, reproduction, field studies, disease models, veterinary science, psychology, physiology, pharmacology, evolution, taxonomy, developmental and molecular biology, genetics and zoogeography).
PubMed - National Library of Medicine http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?holding=cshllib
