ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Memory Board is an experiment in interactive storytelling.
This site tells the evolving history of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a center for the biological sciences since 1898.   The goal of the Memory Board, initiated in 2004, is to provide a forum for scientists, administrators, support staff, trustees, students, laboratory residents and visitors to share their memories about CSHL.

As the digital age progresses, the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Archives continually
works to re-evaluate its methods for acquiring materials and making them accessible.  As a result the Memory Board was born.  The Memory Board creates a digital space for collecting and disseminating materials, which complements the Archives traditional methods.   The Memory Board synthesizes the process of collection and dissemination so that each new Memory Board post is simultaneously acquired by the Archives and made freely accessible to the public on the World Wide Web.
