        Remote Access

Most of the Library's electronic resources, including journals, are available to CSHL users from anywhere off campus and from any location, including foreign countries.

Access to Full Text is based upon your IP Network Address

To determine if you are granted access to full text resources, journal publishers examine your computer's IP network address to determine if the request came from the CSHL campus. The CSHL campus has an IP address range between 143.48.0.0 to 143.48.255.255. Networked computers on the CSHL campus will, by design, be assigned network addresses with that range.

When you connect off campus, you will be assigned a network address by your internet service provider. Your IP address, in this case, will not be within the CSHL address range. Since your IP address is outside of the CSHL campus, you will not likely gain access to paid content.

By using VPN or EZProxy, you can have your off campus machine appear that it is within the CSHL network.

Throughout the last century, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has played a special role in the development of molecular biology. Established in 1972, the CSHL Archives identifies, maintains and preserves records of enduring value pertaining to the origins and development of CSHL and those who have worked here.

Records include administrative files, manuscripts, monographs, lab notes, photographs, scrapbooks, memorabilia, audiovisual material, ephemera, and historic reprints. The Archives is home to the papers of Nobel Laureates James D. Watson, Barbara McClintock, and Alfred D. Hershey. In addition to these collections the Archives contains a collection of over 100,000 photographs taken of scientists attending the CSH Symposia and other meetings and courses since 1933. Portions of the collections are available for viewing online via our Digital Collections Database. The Archives offers an environment for study, research and writing.

  • Menu Dead Head

We had been using external links with empty URL as top-level menu items to allow for a sub-menus to popup. Found when using an ipad, that the sub-menu does not display, which hides all of the content. So we now simple link these top-level item to one of these "Dead Head" single articles, in order to have the submenu appear on the ipod.
